Or should I say, I am not a car, I am a lifestyle?
Murielle is a bit of a speed junkie, she has had a few motoring convictions in the past, something she is not very proud of. Her last one was a few years back, she had to go and sit in the naughty chair in St Brelade Parish Hall and suffer a talking to from the the centenier whilst trying not to yawn and mutter under her breath… This relieved her purse of a few pounds too!
Since then she has been trying very hard to mend her wicked ways, she sold the really fast rally car that Chris had built for her and swapped this growling tiger for me; a purring house trained pussy cat. Well lets face it, I’m not going to go from 0 – 60 miles and hour in a minute am I? She is lucky if I can get from 0 to 30 in 5 minutes !!!!
She kind of knew that before she bought me though, so I wonder why she did it? Mid life crisis? or is she finally accepted that it was time to grow up? I’m still undecided about that one as she has kept her motorcycle and I have competition on sunny days (I win hands down on rainy day, I keep her dry!)
One thing that Chris has noticed and commented on, whilst sitting in the passenger seat, is that Murielle’s driving style has relaxed somehow. The swearing and tense scowl have disappeared; replaced by a Cheshire cat grin and a chillaxed demeanour, elbow resting on the open window and saying ‘Oh well I’ll get there when I get there…” Chris had to pinch himself, he thought someone had cloned his wife. Mind you, what he hasn’t seen yet is Murielle’s driving before she has her morning caffeine injection.
On the way to work, when I am also half awake from the night’s slumber, I take my time starting out at stops and traffic lights… Well I am getting on a bit and no longer take part in ‘traffic light Grand Prix’, so it is not uncommon for those who are running the rat race to hoot at me impatiently. Well, when that happens, I release my hold on her temper and inject a spark of the old Murielle back into her… I have programmed a new function in Murielle and everytime I hear an impatient bip, I automatically make her flip the birdie at the offending vehicle !!! She can’t help it, my mind controlling function takes over.
Since I came to live with Chris and Murielle, she seems to have mellowed ,Chris is very thankful for that so he makes sure my engine keeps running smoothly. Her grumpiness seems to have receeded. When she starts to feel grumpy, she takes me for a drive and since I always get lots of people waving and smiling at me, she soons get her smile back.
All I can do, is give all prospective 2 cv owners a warning. If you buy one of my sisters, be prepared to change. You will become obsessed with keeping her in good condition, in return, she will teach you to enjoy driving and relax behind the wheel.
Owning a 2cv, is not a status statement, a 2cv is not a car, it’s a lifestyle…
