Tags: 2cv, Citroen, lifestyle, Wedding carIn April, Chris, being the 2cv expert in Jersey, received a SOS email from one of his customers who had a friend getting married in July and was looking for an extra 2cv to take her bridesmaids to the venue. She had another 2 cars confirmed but the third one had cancelled on her. So when he came home he passed the email to Murielle to reply (she does sometimes acts as his secretary).
After consulting her busy social diary, Murielle contacted the bride-to-be and they met at the Watersplash for a coffee and a chat. Murielle liked Debbie on sight and volunteered my services, she also refused any form of payment but ask if it would be ok for her to photograph the bride on the day. (She is more obsessed with her camera than me… i’m going to have to do something about that ).
The 18th July Debbie said ‘I do’ to Alan at Gorey Castle and guess what? I had the very important job of carrying 2 lovely bridesmaids and the bride’s sister to the venue…
I came out from that overlong stretch at the body shop all clean and shiny on Thursday afternoon so I was still looooooking goooood on saturday, shiny as a mirror. Murielle didn’t have to use any elbow grease on making me prettier (as if this could be possible), add a little bit of ribbon and here I am, proud as a peacock !
When I arrived at Debbie’s House, she was busy dressing up ‘Scarlet’, Helen’s car, another shiny 2cv, that could give me a little bit of competition.
Cheeky red had some extra lavender at the front and a made up number plate… Why didn’t I think of that? Murielle has lots of lavender in her garden. Darn I have been upstaged by another tin snail!
Next more competition arrived, Charlie ,another very shiny 2cv! I haven’t seen so many of my sisters since i’d been to France in May. Murielle and Phil (Charlie’s owner) got chatting, but I never got to hear what they were saying… ear wigging didn’t work this time !
In no time Charlie was trussed up (hum i mean dressed up) to match Scarlet and I.
The heard the Champagne bottles popped inside the house, and some laughter to go with it. The Bride to be, the bridesmaids and Karen slipped into their lovely dresses and within half an hour everyone was ready to go, the three of us started with matching half roofs open to have a bit of air and not mess up the lovely hair dos of the ladies… However as we turned the corner, the rain started and we had to make an emergency stop and quickly close the roofs. I’m all exited, and I preen myself as we slowly make our way to Gorey castle, I’m tooting away at people waving at me, my bridesmaids wave with big smiles on their faces. Being the centre of attention, I lap it all up, I am in my element, it’s lovely!!!
We made too good a time and arrived early in Gorey village, the rain had stopped so we did a little detour via the pier, posed for a bunch of slightly tipsy French men who were amazed to see our little trio of shiny super cars and loudly commented on how pretty we were! A german woman tapped on my window and asked Murielle if she could take my picture (so chuffed she singled me out) I was hooting with glee !!!
We had another short picure stop on the lane leading to the castle and it rained on our Parade ! Everyone scrambled back quickly in their carriage to wait it out before resurfacing for more photos… hang on a minute, why is everyone photographing the bride and the wedding party? Hellloooo I’m here !!!!
Finally, time for Scarlet, Charlie and I to resume the journey and meander to the castle. Off I cross the drawbridge and oh my…. the entrance is narrow ! Very narrow! I shut my eyes (spotlights) and breathe in whilst Murielle negotiate these, better leave the hard work to the expert!
And that’s it, amongst the laughter and well wishes, we deliver our precious cargos. A last photo session and I’m on my way home. Well it has been an exciting afternoon, I wonder when I will get to meet my sisters again?
This blog is all about me so I won’t put pictures of the bride or bridemaids here but there are some on Murielle’s photography facebook page , (if you are really interested that is… )
Bye for now !
